Use sterile technique Sterilely open the circumcision tray and place opened scalpel on the sterile tray. Put on sterile gloves. Inspect equipment on tray, making sure all instruments and materials are present. See Figure 1 below.
Circumcision trays are routinely packed with a 1.3cm Gomco clamp, the most common size bell used. Assess the size of the penis and estimate the size of Gomco clamp bell needed, 1.1 cm for small penises and 1.45 cm or 1.6 cm for large penises. Careful: The 1.6cm bell is rarely necessary. Using too large a sized bell will risk removing too much prepuce and causing a very poor cosmetic result. If another bell size is needed instead of the 1.3, then you must sterilely add it to the opened circumcision tray now.
