As a first step, assess your patient's current level of physical activity. This can be accomplished rather easily using a one-week pedometer trial, even if your patient is not planning on long-term use of a pedometer. The assessment form at right offers a convenient method of monitoring your patient’s pedometer use. Wearing a pedometer can be motivating in and of itself, so it may be prudent to cover the screen with a piece of masking tape during the assessment period.
