Herbs and Supplements

Despite the fact that lifestyle changes are by far the most effective intervention for menopausal symptoms, not every woman is interested in or is even capable of making some or all of those changes. Many women seek advice about which supplements can help their symptoms. Unfortunately, few studies have consistently shown benefit of this type of treatment, but the next two sections discuss frequently used herbs for which some benefit has been shown, inconsistently shown, or consistently not shown.

Black cohosh (pictured above) is the herb that has shown the best evidence for efficacy and will be discussed first.
