Charakteristik
Stammpflanzen: Mentha pulegium L.
Herkunft: Balkan, Nordafrika.
Gewinnung: Die Pflanze wird zur Blütezeit geschnitten und getrocknet [9].
Schnittdroge: Geschmack. Charakteristisch minzartig. Geruch. Charakteristisch minzartig [223]. Aussehen.Gebrochene oder gefaltete Blattstücke, kleine Laubblätter und Tragblätter auch ganz, beidseitig flaumig behaart, auffallend punktiert; Stengelteile manchmal purpurn überlaufen, die jungen Stengelteile und Blattstiele flaumig behaart. Blüten einzeln oder zusammen, Kelche 2 bis 6 mm lang, fein oder borstig behaart, Zähne lanzettlich-spitz, halb so lang wie die Röhre, die zwei unteren länger; Blütenröhre 4lappig, blaurosa, außen behaart, nach unten gebogen [223].
Pulverdroge: Mikroskopisches Bild. Bräunlich-grünes Pulver, Epidermiszellen beider Seiten leicht gewellt mit diacytischen Spaltöffnungen; reichlich Lamiaceendrüsenschuppen mit 8 bis 10 sezernierenden Zellen; auch einköpfige Drüsenhaare. Einzellige und mehrzellige Gliederhaare auf Blattstücken, Kelch- und Kronenfragmenten. Pollen 25 bis 30 μm im Durchmesser mit 6 Poren [223].
Inhaltsstoffe: 1 bis 2 % ätherisches Öl mit Pulegon als Hauptkomponente (60 bis 90 %). Viele weitere Terpene, s. → Pulegii aetheroleum. 4 % Gerbstoffe, Flavonglykoside Diosmin und Hesperidin [9].
Reinheit: Asche: Höchstens 10 % BHP 83. Säureunlösliche Asche: Höchstens 2 % BHP 83. Mit Wasser extrahierbare Anteile: Mindestens 15 % BHP 83.
Lagerung, Stabilität, Verwendung, u. a.
Gesetzliche Bestimmungen: Giftig (+) [182]. Es ist unwahrscheinlich, daß es bei Einnahme der Droge als Tee zu Vergiftungserscheinungen kommt. Die Angaben in Lit. [225] scheinen sich eher auf das Öl zu beziehen.

Anwendungsbeschränkungen
Nicht während der Schwangerschaft [223].
Ähnlich wie Menthae piperitae folium bei Leber- und Gallenleiden, bei Leibschmerzen, zur vermehrten Harnabsonderung, bei Flatulenz, Bauchkrämpfen, bei Erkältungen und beim Ausbleiben der Regel [223]. Die Wirksamkeit bei diesen Anwendungsgebieten ist nicht belegt. Innerlich: 3mal täglich, getrocknete Droge 1 bis 4 g, auch tassenweise als Teeaufguß mit kochendem Wasser oder ethanolischer Extrakt (1+1) mit Ethanol 45 %, 1 bis 4 mL [223].

Tox. Inhaltsstoffe und Prinzip: Die Giftigkeit der Droge bzw. der ganzen Pflanze beruht auf dem Gehalt an pulegonreichem ätherischem Öl, s. → Pulegii aetheroleum.
