The Kibbutz was established in 1945 by European immigrants. During the War of Independence, Gezer was defended by 68 Haganah soldiers on June 10th, when they were attacked by a battalion-size force of the Arab Legion. Thirty-nine defenders were killed, 12 escaped and the remaining were taken prisoner after four hours of fighting. The Kibbutz was re-conquered that evening by two Palmach squads.
The Kibbutz was rebuilt after the war but fell apart due to various inter-personal problems in 1964. It was once more established in 1974 by a group of American immigrants and today is a thriving community which hosts one of the only baseball fields inIsrael.
