Dutch Red Cabbage (Rode Kool)

Ingredients

3/4 C water

1 small head (2lbs) red cabbage sliced fine (5 C firmly packed)

3 tart apples cored, peeled, and cut into eigths

1/4 C firmly packed sugar

1/4 C vinegar

1/2 tsp all spice

1/4 tsp cinnamon

1/4 tsp ground cloves

2 T butter

Procedure

In a large sauce pan bring ingredients except 1 T butter to boil. Reduce heat cover and simmer for 45 minutes until cabbage is tender. Stir in remaining butter and serve.
