Crew 160 Sol 3 12/29/15

Astronomical Observation Notes

Executive Commander Ashley Hollis-Bussey

Start time: 9:00 pm

Crew members, Ashley, Hiroki, Cassandra, Lee proceeded to the hallway near the Musk Observatory to view the Martian Sky. The Martian Sky was partial cloudy but was still able to see majors constellations and stars at the time. Constellations that were discussed was, Orion, Canius Minor, Cygnus, Pegasus, Gemini, and Torus. These constellations were discussed in great detail by myself to the crew, explaining how to find the constellations in the Martian sky, important facts about the constellation itself, and origin of the constellation. Stars that were visible were Polaris, Vega, Deneb, Betelgeuse, Sirius, and Procyon. These Stars were also discussed in great detail by myself to the crew, explaining how to find the stars in the Martian sky, important facts about the stars itself, and origin of the stars.

The crew enjoyed the experience as they found it beneficial to navigate comfortably at night on Mars using the constellations and stars presented to them. There were no issues in regards to warmth and equipment used during this observation time. I believe if we were able to do this every other night then the crew would benefit the most because it will maximize navigational knowledge using the stars and constellations in the Martian sky.

End time: 9:15 pm
