Time Slot:

Purpose:

The purpose of this EVA was to expose the crew to chemistry field work while staying in simulation. On mars it will be important to be able to determine the location and concentration of various elements/minerals.

Narrative:

At 0930 hours, Josh MacFie, Kyle Flaherty, and I left the hab towards our first location along Cow Dung Road. At this stop, we used a Geiger counter to measure the radiation of the surrounding rocks. After this, our crew headed to the Pinto Canyon to collect sediment and water samples. Both elements were found and brought back to the hab for chemical analysis. In addition, the landscape was further explored, taking in the terrain and its many features.
