How To Use Ahrefs To Find Hidden Opportunities For Your Site

One of the best tools when it comes to keyword research is Ahrefs.

Although it's a bit expensive, this tool is great when it comes to this task – because it provides detailed data that's more relevant and reliable for digital marketers – as well as content creators.

Thus, it's definitely worth your investment i.e. if you want to take your website to the next level.

But the huge question is;

‘How can you use this tool to find hidden opportunities for your site?’

That’s what will be answered in this post.

I will quickly share with you a step by step process that you can use in order to get the most out of this tool.

After reading this post, you'll be able to go out there – and start using this tool i.e. using the techniques shared in this post.

Thus, read till the very end if you're interested in learning more about this topic.

Let's begin......

In order to get started, simply find 5 to 10 competing websites in your niche i.e. those which are ‘killing it' in your industry.

Simply copy their domains/urls – then paste them in a separate Word document.

Once you've a handful of domains, then you need to follow the following process for each of those domains:

Simply copy each domain url – and paste it in Ahrefs & hit the ‘search button'.

Once done, the tool will pull data from Google – then it will present it to you in numerical figures.

Ahrefs will show you the average traffic volumes of each page – thus, allowing you to observe the pages that are driving the most traffic for that site.

Not only that, but the tool also shows you all the keywords which that site is ranking for – thus, allowing you to ‘steal' those keywords.

The truth is, your competitors already did all the ‘dirty work' of finding keywords for content.

Thus, you just have to find what's working for them – and you produce better versions of those articles.

But to make things easier, you need to filter the keywords to only show those with a lower difficulty level of 40 and below.

The reason being that, these are ‘easier' to rank for – compared to those with high difficulty scores.

Thus, it's important to only go for ‘low hanging fruits’ – which are ‘easier' to rank for.

Once done, you should create high quality content that's even better than your competitors' ones.

This helps to rank better than them – thus, allowing you to get more traffic to your site.

Another thing to take note of is the sites that are linking to your competitors' content.

The truth is, if those people are interested in linking to your competitors, they're more likely interested in your content as well.

Thus, it's important to start building relations with those people – and over time, you'll be able to get some backlinks from them

Ahrefs also shows you the amount of social shares which your competitors' articles are getting.

This gives you a clue on how much social shares you need to get in order to rank – since social signals plays a huge role in SEO.

And using this data, you can then start acquiring social shares i.e. through sharing your content with your friends and fam on social media – or even through boosting your posts on Facebook (for more reach).

Just a pro tip;

Infographics works better on social media – since they're more engaging in nature.

Many people have a tendency of re-sharing infographics to their respective audiences – thus, further boosting your social signals.

Thus, it's important to create a simple infographic for each piece of content that you produce – then you share it on your socials.

Repeat this whole process for all urls/domains in order to find great keywords that you could potentially target.

And over time, your website will have more content without having to stress about crafting ideas from scratch.
