Are College Degrees Worth It?

Are College Degrees Worth It?

So there's this debate which has been going on for decades about college degrees i.e. are they worth it

Answer: It Depends!

I know it's quite a boring answer – but let me justify why l gave this kind of response.

A college degree is important if you're pursuing technical/specialised fields like medicine – because you can't just wake up one day cutting people's bodies – you need some specialised skills to do that.

In that case, you'll have to go to college – so that you can acquire the much needed skills required to become a doctor.

NB: You shouldn't go to study medicine with the goal of working for a certain hospital your whole life.

Instead, you should become a doctor with the aim of opening your own surgery one day.

Yes – you might work at other hospitals soon after college with the aim of getting experience – or maybe whilst gathering the bag needed to start your own surgery.

Because if your end goal is to work for someone else your whole life, you wont achieve much freedom.

However, a college degree might not be necessary in other fields.

For example, if you want to be an entrepreneur, just start the f*cken business right now instead of going to a business school.

The reason being that, most of the info which is taught at business school doesn't apply to the real business world – coz most of it is outdated.

(And curriculums takes too long to get revised)

Thus, instead of taking massive student loan debt – in order to learn useless theories which doesn't apply to the real business world, it's better to just start your own business.

Because the 4 years that you waste sitting in the lecture room might be better used if you direct all those years towards growing your business.

And let me tell you a secret🤫;

Most lecturers at business schools haven't run any business in their entire lives – they just teach the staff.

If someone is teaching you how to run a business – but haven't used the info to start his/her own business, then there's a red flag.

So if you want to become an entrepreneur, it's better to just start the f*cken business on your own.

If you want to learn, then go on YouTube & find some great tutorials from people who're actually running successful businesses.

Or if possible, try to invest in their mentorship programs – because those people doesn't waste time teaching you useless staff.

Instead, they just teach you staff that they're currently applying to their business e.g.

‘Buy product X from supplier X at $X on AliExpress, then you resell it on Amazon & eBay for Y price – thus, making you $_ profit’.

‘Now, go & do business ASAP – and start collecting the cheques!’

They don't do a lot of fluff – instead, they just go straight to the point i.e. no need to spend 4 years learning this staff.

So what's the conclusion?

If you want to pursue a technical/specialised field, then it might be worth it to go to college.

But if you’re racking massive student loan debt just to go and learn about a non-technical field, then it might not be worth it.

Because you can learn that staff through YouTube & mentorship programs – which is very cost effective in nature.

And remember, the staff that you learn at college might not be applicable to the ever-changing/ dynamic world – thus, you'll be paying for info that you'll not use.

But if you find someone who's already successful whilst doing the actual thing, then you can save yourself years needed to go to college – since these people teaches you the most important staff only.

Disclaimer:

All points discussed in this post are based on my thoughts and opinions. I’m not saying that you shouldn't go to college – because l myself also went there.

The key is to decide your end goal – then you do some research to see if it's worth it to pursue college or not.
