Convertkit Review: Is It Good For Beginners?

Convertkit is probably one of the most popular email marketing softwares among bloggers.

Due to its unique selling proposition, Convertkit has managed to gain a lot of traction from many online entrepreneurs who’re looking to get started with email marketing.

In this quick review, l will answer some of the most asked questions about this software.

I will try by all means to provide detailed answers on each of the following questions;

Without wasting time, let me dive straight into more detail.

What Is Convertkit?

Convertkit Logo

Convertkit is probably one of the most popular softwares which was specifically designed for bloggers.

Convertkit was established some few years ago in the US and has managed to expand its reach beyond its borders.

With the addition of a partnership with Pat Flynn, the company has managed to grow even bigger since Pat Flynn is probably one of the most influential people in the blogging space.

Due to its unique features, Convertkit is able to retain a lot of its customers since this company tries by all means to continuously improve their software in order to maximise the user experience.

Thus, Convertkit is kinda a big deal when it comes to email marketing.

Who Is Convertkit Good For?

• Bloggers

• Affiliate Marketers

• Digital Marketers

• Course Creators

• Drop shippers

• Network Marketers

*Or anyone in the online marketing space.

Is Convertkit Free?

Convertkit gives a generous free plan to people with less than a thousand subscribers.

This is great for beginners who're just starting out but so eager to grow their list without paying a dime for a software.

However, keep in mind that the freemium plan comes with very limited features, since the more advanced features are reserved for premium plans.

Features like automation and segmentation are not available in the freemium plan since these are regarded as ‘expensive'.

For this reason, you might be forced to upgrade to paid plans if you wish to get access to these features.

Convertkit Pricing

The lowest plan costs $29/month, which is the basic entry level to the premium version of this software.

This plan is suitable for people with less than 1 000 subscribers but who're so eager to explore some more advanced features other than the ones offered in the freemium version.

Convertkit pricing strategy is similar to other softwares since it charges its plans based on the size of your list i.e. the bigger your list, the more you pay.

However, l have to admit that Convertkit is not the cheapest software out there, since there are other softwares like GetResponse who charges almost half this price for the same list size.

When it comes to value for money, l think that Convertkit is not the best choice since this software does not offer a big bang for your buck.

Its features are too basic for the price being charged i.e. the software does not provide detailed analytic reports, templates, newsletter editors, etc.

In my opinion, l think that Convertkit should be used by complete beginners who're just looking for a software to grow their list for free.

Once your list grows to a significant amount, you might need to switch to other more advanced softwares such as Aweber, ActiveCampaign, or even GetResponse

Is Convertkit Good For Newsletters?

In my opinion, l think that Convertkit's newsletter editor is not that great compared to other softwares.

This is so because Convertkit offers a plain text editor which is not that lucrative as compared to the drag and drop editor which is offered by other softwares like GetResponse.

Convertkit is great if you wish to send pretty much basic newsletters to your subscribers.

But if you want to send graphic newsletters, then Convertkit might not be a great option since this software is a bit ‘weak' when it comes to this field.

You might need to consider other softwares like Aweber, ActiveCampaign, GetResponse, etc when you wish to send graphic-rich newsletters.

Convertkit Alternatives

GetResponse

ActiveCampaign

Constant Contact

Aweber

Sendinblue

Is Convertkit Better Than Mailchimp?

In my opinion, l would say that Mailchimp is better than Convertkit in terms of value for money.

Mailchimp comes with a ton of stunning templates which were designed by advanced experts.

On the contrary, Convertkit comes with very basic templates which might be fine for beginners, but might not be as highly converting as the ones being offered by Mailchimp.

Also, Mailchimp has higher deliverability rates than Convertkit since Mailchimp is more trusted by email servers than Convertkit.

For this reason, emails which are sent using Mailchimp have higher chances of reaching the recipients' inbox than those sent using Convertkit.

Another thing to note is that Mailchimp offers better analytic tools than Convertkit.

With Mailchimp, you get detailed reports about the performance of your email campaigns hence allowing you to make more informed decisions.

On the contrary, Convertkit only provides some basic data like open rates, click-through rates, and unsubscribe rates - which is too shallow for someone who want to make advanced decisions.

But l hope that Converkit will work on these issues in order to make their software better in the future.

Convertkit Pros

• Beginner friendly

• Generous freemium plan

• Easy to use and navigate

Convertkit Cons

• Expensive

• Poor analytics

• Lower deliverability

• Poor newsletter design tools

Final Verdict

To sum up the discussion, l think that Convertkit is not that bad for people who are looking to grow their email list for free.

You can utilise their freemium plan to grow your list from 0 to 1 000 subs without having to worrying to about the cost.

However, l would not recommend anyone who is looking to take their business to higher levels to rely on this software due to its limited features.

Also, Convertkit is not the best investment of your money if we consider value for money.

You can get more value for less money if you invest into other softwares such as ActiveCampaign, GetResponse, or Aweber.
