10 Best Email Marketing Softwares For Online Businesses In 2022

Best Email Marketing Softwares

So my team and l have been doing this research for quite some few months now.

We wanted to figure out; ‘which email marketing softwares are the best for online businesses’ i.e. based on certain criteria’s – which are listed below:

1. Ease Of Use🛃

Most people who want to use these email marketing softwares are not very tech savvy – thus, they need a software which is easy to navigate and configure.

2. Price💵

This is one of the most important factor which you need to take into account i.e. before deciding on which software to settle on.

You should aim to choose something that is affordable, whilst providing the best features – so as to reduce unnecessary costs to your business.

3. Built-In Tools🛠

There’s no doubt that a good email marketing software should come with pre-made templates, opt-in forms, landing pages, amongst other tools – so as to reduce some burdens on the consumer side.

4. Deliverability🛂

One of the most common problems in email marketing is the issue of deliverability.

You can have the most converting emails in the world – but if those emails gets to the spam folder, your customers will not be able to see them.

It’s important to choose a software with high deliverability rate, so as to yield the best results in your campaigns.

5. Customer Support💬👤

This is one of the most important factors that you also need to consider when choosing a software to use.

This is so because, some companies out there have poor customer support and low response rates. Some companies uses ‘bots' which might not be very helpful in solving some customers’ queries.

~~~~~
We also went on to collect data from different online marketers in order to hear their opinions on these different softwares.
After evaluating and analysing all this data, we were able to compile a list of the best email marketing softwares in the world🌍.
And here it is:
Without further ado, let’s jump straight into more in-depth analysis of these softwares.
GetResponse is an all in one marketing software, which comes with a ton of features – such as automation, workflows, opt-in forms, landing pages, sales funnels, webinar funnels, amongst others.
GetResponse is one of the most popular tools in online marketing, since it is very beginner friendly in nature – as it comes with editable templates, which are helpful when you want to get up and running in less time.
GetResponse has few restrictions, since it allows you to promote various affiliate offers such as health products, lead generation products, make money online products, amongst others – which are otherwise restricted by other email marketing softwares.
GetResponse also makes it easy to sell your own products, since it also comes with sales funnel builders, as well as webinar funnel builder features.
Also comes with the Integrations and API feature, which allows you to automatically capture your leads’ emails when they opt-in using another marketing software like ClickFunnels – or even your Shopify store.
GetResponse Pricing
N.B These prices are based on a list of 1000 subscribers.
Price for each plan may be higher if you have a huge list.
Basic Plan - $15/month
Comes with a ton of great features which are way more than the price of this plan.
These includes unlimited landing pages, unlimited templates, autoresponders, sales funnels, amongst others.
However, the basic plan does not come with automated workflows, as well as the webinar funnel feature.
Thus, if you need these features, then you should upgrade to the Plus plan.
Plus - $49/ month
This includes everything in the Basic plan, but it comes with some additional features such as automated workflows and webinar funnels.
Thus, if you're looking to automate your email campaigns, then you should consider choosing this plan.
Professional - $99/month
This includes everything in the Plus plan.
However, it comes with the ‘paid webinars’ feature, which allows you to sell your own products utilising the power of webinars. BTW, webinars are great especially if you're selling high ticket products.
Also comes with unlimited sales funnels, webinar funnels, and more.
Enterprise – Custom Pricing
Includes everything in the Profession plan and many other features which are designed to suit your preferences.
These includes transactional emails, email campaign consulting, deliverability consulting, account manager, dedicated IP address, amongst others.
The price of this plan depends on the customisation features that you need, thus you may need to get a quote for this plan before you purchase it.
Aweber has been around for quite some time now – and it's one of the most popular marketing softwares in the online space.
Aweber became more popular in 2020 when it introduced its new FREE Plan, which allows users to build their list to 500 subscribers for free before moving to the paid options.
With its FREE plan, you can send up to 3000 emails per month, which is great for beginners since most beginners only sends few emails per month.
However, the free plan only gives you the option to build one email list, which is a limitation if you're promoting different offers which falls in different niches.
If you're promoting products within different niches, you might need to make different email lists – based on different categories of the products that you're promoting.
Aweber also comes with a lot of great features – such as automation, signup forms, unlimited templates, landing pages, integrations, image hosting, list segmentation, amongst others – and these features varies based on the plan that you choose.
The first paid plan comes at $19/month (for less than 500 subscribers), which is higher than the price being charged by GetResponse – since GetResponse charges $15/month for up to 1000 subscribers.
Aweber prices increases as your list grows – and they go all the way up to $149/month i.e. for people with a list of 10 000 – 25 000 subscribers range.
However, if you have a bigger list of more than 25 000 subscribers, you might need to get a quote directly from the Aweber team, so as to check how much you need to pay for that huge list.
In terms of customer support, Aweber is also great since they respond to customer queries in the least possible time – and you get assisted by a real person rather than automated bots.
3. ActiveCampaign
Active Campaign - Best Email Marketing Software
This is one of the best email marketing softwares out there, since it is well known for having the highest deliverability rate i.e. compared to other softwares.
ActiveCampaign is ideal for advanced marketers who wants to build complex workflows which are not found in other email marketing softwares.
Another cool about ActiveCampaign is that, it comes with more advanced workflow automations, which allows you to send different emails based on your customer's behaviours and actions.
For example, you might decide to say;
If a subscriber opens the first email, then they’ll automatically receive the second follow-up email.
If they don't engage with the first email, then they wont receive other emails in the automation workflow series.
This helps to reduce spam cases, since most subscribers receives a lot of emails everyday from different companies – thus, they might fail to open some of these emails.
Another unique feature about this software is that, it allows you to send text messages to your clients if you have their phone numbers – hence, allowing you to connect with your customers on more than one platform.
ActiveCampaign gives you a 14 DAY FREE TRIAL – which allows you to test the software before paying for monthly subscriptions.
In terms of pricing, ActiveCampaign is a bit expensive i.e. compared to other softwares like GetResponse.
Its lowest plan starts at $15/month for 500 or less contacts.
However, if you have a list of up to 1000 subscribers, you’ll have to pay at least $29/month.
However, if you use something like GetResponse, you’ll only pay $15 for that same list size (1000 subscribers) – hence saving you $14 every month.
Its plans goes all the way up to $279/month (Enterprise plan) – and this is mainly used by big businesses who may require some more advanced customised features.
But if you're just a beginner, then you might need to go for the lowest plan – so as to avoid unnecessary costs to your business.
ActiveCampaign is also characterised by a very supportive customer support, which is always available to address any of their customers’ issues.
However, it’s important to note that ActiveCampaign does not allow promotion of any get rich quick schemes or Multi-Level Marketing through their platform – thus, your account might get terminated with immediate effect if you try to promote products which fall into any of these categories.
But besides that, ActiveCampaign remains one of the best marketing softwares of this era.
Ratings: 9.2/10
According to the emailtooltester, Constant Contact is regarded as the best email marketing software when it comes to deliverability. (as of December 2020)
The deliverability rate of this software was estimated to be around 89.9% – compared to other alternatives like Aweber (80.8%), GetResponse (82.2%), Active Campaign (89.3%), and the list goes on.
Just like other softwares, it also comes with automation features, landing page builders, sign up forms, templates, amongst other features.
It also comes with some web builder features, which allows you to build a website using this software.
However, l don't recommend using this software for building websites, since there’s a ton of other softwares like WordPress which specialises entirely on website building.
Constant Contact’s dashboard is easy to use and navigate, thus it is newbie friendly.
It also offers some educational resources to its users, so as to improve the user experience for its customers.
Even though they give a 60 Day Free Trial, l find this software a bit expensive especially if we compare its prices to other providers like GetResponse.
Their plans starts at $20/month if you have a list of less than 500 subscribers.
However, the price goes up as your list grows, thus you might need to pay $45/month if your list surpasses the 500 subscriber mark.
It’s important to note that, the lowest plan does not come with features like automations, surveys, coupons, event management, amongst others.
Thus, if you need these features, you might need to upgrade to the PLUS plan which starts at $45/month.
In my opinion, there’s a mismatch between the price of this software and the its features.
This is so because this software is not the best when it comes to automations, since it is far behind Active Campaign i.e. when it comes to automation features.
Even though Constant Contact is a great software, it’s very difficult to recommend this software to people because you can get a lot of more advanced features for less money if you choose other softwares like GetResponse or Active Campaign.
Most people gets carried away by the 60 Day Free Trial – but the truth is, you’ll have to pay more in the long run since its prices are a bit higher.
5. Convertkit
Convertkit - Best Email Marketing Softwares
Fifth on our list is a software called Convertkit.
When Pat Flynn started to recommend this software on his blog, this software gained some huge traction – since the Smart Passive Income blog receives a ton of traffic.
Convertkit was mainly created for content creators who’re looking to get started with email marketing in less time.
It’s one of the most simplest tools out there, since it comes with very basic features.
However, most advanced marketers opt for Active Campaign or GetResponse – since these tool comes with more advanced features like in-depth reports, complex automations, amongst others.
This software also comes with limited templates compared to most softwares. But they’re still adding more templates to their software in order to increase variety and choice for its users.
The tag function allows you to segment your subscribers based on their behaviours, actions, locations, amongst other variables – and this helps to get the best user experience for your subscribers.
Convertkit also comes with a free plan i.e. for people who’ve less than 1000 subscribers. This free plan allows you to prepare unlimited signup forms, landing pages, CTAs, amongst other features.
However, the free plan does not allow you to set automations and autoresponders, thus you might need to upgrade to the paid plan if you want to use these features.
The paid plan starts at $29/month – and the price increases as your list gets bigger.
In terms of deliverability and customer support, Convertkit is also great since it's still new to the industry, thus it's trying in every way possible to make their software more attractive to customers.
Even though this software is a bit costly, it’s ideal for people who aren't tech savvy – since this software is easy to use and navigate.
Ratings: 8.9/10
6. Mailchimp
Mailchimp is one of the most popular softwares out there – especially for beginners who’re on a shoestring budget.
This is so because Mailchimp offers a free plan for those who has less than 2000 subscribers.
There’s no other provider out there who has this kind of free plan – thus, this makes Mailchimp more favourable amongst other softwares.
With this free plan, you can use almost 80% of its features – and this is great if you're just starting out since you might not need to use advanced features in your early days.
However, as you become more of an advanced marketer, you might require to use other advanced features such as list segmentation – thus, you’ll need to upgrade to the paid plans which starts at $9.99/month, which is also affordable i.e. compared to other providers.
Mailchimp also comes with a basic landing page builder – which is great if you only need to build simple landing pages for collecting your customers' emails.
However, if you want to build advanced landing pages, then you might need to use ClickFunnels or Builderall, since these softwares specialises in that field.
Just like any other software, Mailchimp also comes with the automation features, which allows you to insert some follow up emails in your autoresponder & start sending emails to your list automatically using a set sequence.
It also comes with the integrations feature, which allows you to link your email marketing tool to other softwares like Shopify, WooCommerce, etc., hence making it easy to run your ecom business.
However, Mailchimp restricts the sending of emails related to multi level marketing, affiliate marketing (sometimes), cryptocurrency, weight lose products, amongst other industries.
Thus, if you plan to promote any product(s) which falls in these industries, then you should consider using other platforms like GetResponse – which has less restrictions.
Ratings: 8.9/10
7. Hubspot
Hubspot is an all in one tool which comes with marketing tools, SEO tools – or you can even publish your blog posts using this platform.
Hubspot has its own Academy, which teaches its users how to get better at email marketing, SEO, amongst other various topics.
This allows its users to get more knowledge about all these various topics, hence this increases their customer retention since most of their trainings comes for free.
However, its dashboard is a bit complex as it is a bit confusing in nature. But if you keep using this software, you’ll get used to it.
Another big challenge of Hubspot is that, its pricing structure is less attractive.
Even though some features comes for free, the paid plan costs around $1 500 – and it covers almost all the various tools like email marketing, SEO, sales funnels, landing pages, etc.
You might need to think twice before using this platform, since there are other tools out there which are way cheaper.
Also, Hubspot does not necessarily specialise in email marketing, thus you might need to consider other softwares like Active Campaign, Aweber, or GetResponse if you want to mainly focus on email marketing.
Ratings: 8.9/10
8. MailerLite
MailerLite is one of the easiest tools we’ve tested. This is so because its dashboard is easy to understand, since everything is clear and straight forward.
MailerLite also comes with a generous free plan, which allows you to use the software for free – as long as you have less than 1000 subscribers & sending less than 12 000 emails per month.
This might be good for small businesses who’re just starting out & they’re still mainly focusing on collecting emails and building their list.
However, the free plan comes with a Mailerlite water mark on the footer of every email that you send out – or even on your landing pages.
Thus, you might need to upgrade to the paid plan if you want to get rid of the water mark.
The paid plans starts at $10/month, which is still affordable since other providers are charging way more than this price.
Mailerlite also comes with a website builder feature, which allows you to build your websites using their simple drag and drop tool.
However, if you're using the free plan, you will only be limited to 5 sites only. Thus, if you need to build more websites, you might need to upgrade to higher plans.
It’s also important to note that the websites comes with the my-site.mailerlite.com type of subdomains, thus you might need to upgrade in order to use your own custom domains.
However, l wouldn't recommend you to host your website with MailerLite, since there’s a ton of other great web hosting services like Bluehost, which are SEO friendly and have higher chances of ranking on Google.
MailerLite also lacks advanced reporting features – hence it might not be a good software for advanced marketers.
In my opinion, MailerLite is great for beginners since it is simple to use.
But as your skill set improves, you might need to use some more advanced softwares like GetResponse or Active Campaign.
Ratings: 8.6/10
9. Sendinblue
Sendinblue - Best Email Marketing Softwares
Sendinblue is still new to the market – but the company is growing at a much faster rate.
This software has been gaining a lot of momentum in the past few months – because it has an attractive FREE plan of 300 emails/day.
Just like Active Campaign, Sendinblue also allows you to send text messages to your subscribers, which allows you to connect with your customers on more than one platform.
Unlike other softwares which charges based on the number of subscribers, Sendinblue charges based on the number of emails that you send.
This might be a great option for people with a huge list, but they only want to send some few newsletters per month – because you’ll only have to pay for less emails.
For example, if you have an email list of 10 000 subscribers and you only send 3 newsletters per month (30 000 emails), you will only pay for the lowest plan – which starts at $25/month, since this allows you to send up to 40 000 emails per month.
With other softwares, you might need to pay over $100/month if you have that huge list – even though you might not be sending many emails to that list.
Comes with automation tools, landing pages, signup forms, CRM, amongst others.
However, if you need to create landing pages using this software, you’ll be forced to go for the paid plans – since the landing page feature isn't available in the free plan.
This might not be ideal for people who wants to take advantage of the 300 emails/day FREE plan, but still need to create some landing pages to capture more leads.
Thus, the usefulness of this software depends on the number of emails that you wish to send to your subscribers on a given time period.
Also keep in mind that, this software only integrates with few apps & softwares at the moment, since it is still new to the industry.
But we hope that it will have more integrations in the near future.
Ratings: 8.4/10
10. Drip
Drip is also another great software which has gained a lot of traction from many online marketers.
Features includes landing pages, automations, integrations, signup forms, amongst others.
What makes Drip more unique is its tracking feature, which allows you to track the activity of your web visitors whenever they visit your website.
For example, if someone visits your website and then subscribes to your list via the Drip signup form, Drip is able to monitor the activities of that person and is also able to trace ‘which pages does that person visit on your site’.
This is great because you can easily identify the type of content that is getting a lot of traction from your web visitors.
Drip also comes with the lead scoring feature, which allows you to categorise your subscribers based on their behaviours & actions.
For example, you can assign scores to your subscribers based on how frequent they open your emails.
You can say that every time someone opens your email, that person will be given 1 point – and the points will accumulate based on the number of emails he/she opens.
This makes it easy when you plan to run a promotion in the future – since you can only send your promo email(s) to those subscribers with a high open rate history (a higher lead score) – since these are the people who proves to resonates with your emails.
However, the main limitation of Drip is its pricing structure – since this software charges more i.e. compared to most alternatives out there.
Thus, you might need to think twice before choosing this software – since it is not cost effective in nature.
Drip also prohibits the promotion of other products which falls in ‘high risky’ industries.
For example, cryptocurrency, health, real estate, multi level marketing, pharmaceuticals, amongst others.
Thus, you might need to consider other softwares if you're planning to promote products which falls into these industries.
BONUS
Best Email Marketing Softwares
Klaviyo (Best For Ecommerce)
Klaviyo is regarded as the best email marketing software when it comes to ecommerce.
This software is common on most Shopify stores, since it was specifically designed for ecom businesses which sells physical products.
Klaviyo looks a bit complicated i.e. if you're still new to it, but you’ll get used to it when you use it consistently for some few days.
Just like most softwares, it comes with automations, signup forms, integrations, amongst other common features.
Also allows you to segment your subscribers based on their behaviours and actions.
This helps to send the right emails, to the right subscribers – hence, improving your open rates.
Klaviyo also comes with a free plan, which allows you to use the software for free – as long as you have less than 250 contacts.
However, as your contacts increases, you will have to switch to the paid plans which starts at $30/month.
In a nutshell, Klaviyo is the best email marketing software for ecom businesses.
Final Verdict
Email marketing remains the best and most effective form of marketing – since it allows you to build better relations with your clients.
When someone visits your website, there’s less probability of him/her to return in the future, since there’s a ton of other similar websites which are offering similar content/products/services.
But if you’re able to collect emails, you can keep in touch with your clients in the long run i.e. even if they fail to visit your website again.
Thus, it’s high time for business owners to take email marketing more serious, so as to increase their sales & revenue in the long run.
For small businesses, it’s important to start building a list as soon as possible because the money is in the list – also, each email subscriber is worth approximately $1.
Thus, it’s high time to invest in an email marketing software, which is cost effective in nature – but at the same time, satisfying the above mentioned metrics like high deliverability, simplicity, great customer support, and high reliability.
In my opinion, l think that GetResponse satisfies all these conditions, and this is witnessed by the amount of positive reviews which this software has received over the past years.
