Retiree Burnouts

it's not all pretty out there

The new Ram turbo diesel enhances the good feelings before the kibitzing began.

Usually try to have a positive spin on chapter material but occasionally just gotta tell it like it is and not sugar coat it.

This week experienced a reunion of co-workers at Friendly's Restaurant for breakfast. Bear in mind, these were government employees (the general population disdains calling us "workers"). Had been feeling a little euphoric lately preceding our get together but each guy kind of lowered my mood several notches so that by the end I (almost) felt like giving back my pension and going back to work or shooting my self in the head.

One guy whining about his in-laws, another's house was falling down (with pictures on cell phone to prove it). Then there's always the favorite, "How's your health been?" question to which each guy tries to outdo the others' miseries. Wha wha I can't run foot races anymore. Wha wha I gotta see my doctor this week for such and such. Or the classic default position,  "I'll just never be "normal" again.

I gotta go mow my lawn. I gotta go cut my neighbors trees. A cell phone goes off - customer wants another swimming pool installed. That put the kibosh on the whole event and we all trundled away.

Going Stumpie with Dad's saw, the spirit lives. But it's great to get together once in a while to see if you are not as bad off as the group. And the breakfast discount was still in effect - 50% off.

My bird friends continue to be a part of my retirement hobby keeping me grounded as they take the high road.

The Hudson River above Glens Falls is just a quick trip, clean and remote. Caught no fish and I don't care but they are there.

A little less sun on this day but still a good time had by all.
