Ch 56 Professor Emeritus
Uncle Dick Schmidt

Swapped a Honda to Buffalo- overnight at Uncle (Dr.) Dick's house. He made me take him out to dinner (I insisted but let my dealership pay for the Crab legs).
Visited his office at Univ of Buffalo, South Campus, Public Health School, Dept of Biostatistics where I met the Dept Chairman. I have to reiterate from Chapter 41, that Dick taught there for 38 years and only ended his salaried position because he was forced to retire at 70 due to the maximum age law (since rescinded). Still listed as Professor Emeritus. Prior career has been statistical computing throughout several departments including; Business Dept, Math Dept, Statistics Dept, and Computer Dept. He has continued to work there for free 2 to 4 days a week for the last 19 years. Wants to make it an even 20 years- to age 90. I know he will make it. I don't know if he will actually quit. He did finally.
He has authored some 10 or 20 books and stacks of books are ever present, beside his office PC computer, terminals, SUN workstations as well as at his home. Like Gandhi said, Live as if you were to die tomorrow, learn as if you were to live forever.
