Couldn't refuse a free train ride for veterans on this Saratoga to North Creek route in the Adirondacks. Having done several trips in this section of the Hudson River via tube, raft, canoe, and kayak this was a nice reverse perspective view. The 50 mile 2 hour route parallels most of the river corridor but the best perspective and photography is from standing in between cars in the open air windows rather than from the bubble dome car.
The ole locomotive 1943 Schenectady ALCO D&H SNC821 [was Staten Island SIRT821 ] was at the rear of our train when we departed. The front 1949 SNC 52 locomotive on this former Durant line pulled until it began spewing sparks so the switchover to the pusher saved the day . Durant began this rail line in 1863 just a few years after he'd employed attorney Abraham Lincoln regarding a railroad bridge case.
A Norman Rockwellian scene at Village of Corinth. A low key celebration with 2 passengers embarking. There were many locals photographing this train's first run of the summer season. The winter season snow train takes skiers up to Gore Mt.
lucky to capture this Northern Goshawk which was buzz diving Misha & I on walk in the woods.
