Friendly Fire

living simply

The visit to Roxbury to visit old college roomie started with the night fire pit. His 20 acre property is right next to naturalist John Burroughs home see three year old Chapter 317 for more. Sure they all laughed at me, stop taking pictures, but did Burroughs stop absorbing nature?

Sometimes the Moon shines on you under blue skies. Sometimes the clouds are friendly and light. We were favored by good thoughts. It was Karma.

The morning light from the deck was not to be missed, even at 5am.

An early morning dog walk up the road to pay homage at neighbor John Burroughs grave. It was like angel John was up ahead illuminating his grave site for us to come out of the shadows to celebrate life.

We honored the naturalist by sitting on the rock that he often contemplated from. Tried to stay in a reverent mood but the climb up the big rock with a hitch in my hip caused some amusement to some.

Burroughs chose this final resting place. I wonder why?

His Woodchuck Lodge was closed but I managed to poke the cam close to the glass window behind the shutters to composite this. You get the idea - he lived in a simple manner, sufficient for it's purpose. 

These woods are Pete's separating his home from the maddening tourists (a few) who visit the Burroughs' property. I'd love to get in there with my chainsaw and do a little thinning. Sorry, it's my Forestry background coming out again.
