Vanished Airplane

the Glenn Miller Story

I'm working on solving the Malaysian Air 370 mystery but I'm also still trying to resolve the 70 year old mystery disappearance of Big Band leader Glenn Miller, still MIA from WW2. In the picture above used as the Army Air Force Band Facebook page cover photo they are playing "In the Mood" with Dad in the audience.

Glenn had performed a prior session at the Hardwick base where Halesworth's commanding officer arranged for a B24 to transport the band for this 6Aug44 Halesworth session.  On this very day another (Osborne) crew flew Dad's plane "Cover Girl" to Hamburg and was shot down. But this day was between Dad's Aug 2 and Aug 11 missions to knock out buzz bomb sites, so I'm sure he attended and he would go to the top of the wing. Can't recall if he actually ferried Glenn on a flight but certainly one of the crews in the group did that. Halesworth is on the NE English coast of Suffolk (#28)

Sis and I are to attend the Glenn Miller Orchestra Band in Troy as it was a staple in our household growing up. That music defined and was the sound track of our parents lives. Might have had some influence in brother's middle name of Glen.

Glenn went missing 15 Dec 44 while on a flight into Villecoublay, just after Dad's last mission. There has still been no recovery of the plane or bodies so there are many theories about the event. The German intelligence version is interesting where Glenn made it to Paris, met a prostitute, died and was covered up- but the consensus is RAF friendly fire although a recent plane spotter story conflicts.

GM commissioned officer even though being too old to serve. His band performed 70 sessions during his 1944 deployment with only one guy from his command dying in the war.
