1932 Auburn V-12 Boattail Speedster

I sense there is a growing weariness on the part of readers of this blog. Yet, I must persist, it is my story! I've worked my way up to Judge status for my Museum where we get to keep these spiffy uniforms suitable for volleyball or Fire Island.  Here I've honored this beautiful Auburn with best in class this week. Al Rosenblum of New Hartford, NY found it in Switzerland a few years ago and had it restored in Michigan and Vermont. I know there are Hyundai owners out there who will claim their car is tops in the JD Power rankings, but let's see if they are prize winners 75 years from now?

Just to give you a little more flavor for this event I've linked this photo to illustrate. We had about 50 Vipers show up. At about $100,000 a pop, that's 5 Million big ones sitting there to drool you ice cream cones on. I judged the chopper motorcycle class as well, though the prior rain was not conducive for encouraging attendance. Race car driver, Jack Lehner (age about 10?) insisted I take his picture with the go cart he races up at Caroga Lake.

The Camaro that Jim Taylor raced in the Cannonball Run was also entered for judging. Jim wasn't present, however, as he is preparing to race in the world's oldest road rally, Beijing to Paris. I'll be checking on his teams (entry #96) progress on line in his pre 1941 class along this interesting route throughout the month's duration. It'll be my vicarious thrill of worldwide adventure thru Mongolia.

Saw the terrific Gullwing- Fitch attempted land speed record video on pbs HD this week. Catch it if you can.
