Syracuse football loses 34-20 to Maryland.

But it was another huge success for our college buddies get-together as we increased last year's participation by 20% adding Jesse. There was an instant bonding even though it was 45 years ago we last saw him. We were always a mixed lot and I guess still are although time has mellowed out the harsher differences between this group of mixed soldiers and peace protesters.

I'm getting excited cheering right under (unplanned) one of my heroes and fellow classmate, All American All Pro Floyd Little . Pete has been adding grandchildren (too numerous to count). Bruce fully enjoyed last years cruise to Alaska and opened some stores in his Long Island mini-mall. Robert has been doing some consultant work partnering with son. Jesse still doing a near full load of counseling at his practice. Buz is still being Buz, you know what I mean. Had a nice chat over diner at our old favorite Danzers German Restaurant, although nervous Nellie Pete had to scoot home with one headlight fearing "the Man".

Jesse Rieber holds court here on the Quad like the old days of the 60's when he preached against the Vietnam War. Perhaps you can see the intensity and sincerity in the lines of his face. Today's crowd was in a much more relaxed carefree state of mind, although the American war hawks ever hovering, seem to be edging us toward foreign intervention again (and again, and again).

In Jesse's Biography he mentioned going to Canada in a life changing moment in 1968 when his conscience would not allow him to remain in the U.S. He had medical issues, so being drafted into the war was not really an issue. What was that like spending the prime two decades of your life in a foreign country you basically knew nothing about? He earned a couple masters degrees and did consulting work concerning the social welfare of aboriginal Indians of Manitoba. There are significant native american populations throughout Manitoba. You'd almost think it was their homeland. He has attained 5 college degrees (BA Poly Sci, BA Sociology, MBA Poly Sci MBA city Planning, MA Psychology and work as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor.  You have to admire his serious commitment to helping mankind through social work rather than with a gun.

His daughter works for ESPN in production of the X-games. Good gig.

Early on he traveled 1000 miles by air to the remote Hudson Bay village of Churchill, Manitoba, the Polar Bear Capital of the World. Yes, there are still some surviving on dwindling ice sheets. You can't get there by car and the train takes 2 1/2 days of travel. It's been featured in National Geographic and the PBS "Nature" series. There he was evaluating new methods in education.

moral: give peace a chance.
