Tiki

Kon Tiki Lounge

I found my Mai Tai Tiki cocktail ceramic down cellar today. Am getting together with some old college friends for a retiree breakfast at the Ravena Diner tomorrow and I know Robert has a fascination with these things. Photographed in my kitchen with the Christmas Cactus.

It's from one of the trips to Honolulu in the 70's - 80's. We stayed at the Sheraton I think at least one night, had to move around a little to get the airline discount for available rooms.

Definitely remember having a nice steak dinner on honeymoon from on the top floor of the Sheraton Hanohano Room. It had the best twilight view of Diamond Head from Waikiki. The Tiki glass was from the Kon Tiki Lounge on the second story where we just had drinks and maybe a pu pu platter. Thought it would always be there, but a google search showed that the lounge is now a mere footnote in history. These internetors will document anything and everything - I like it.

Found this beautiful picture from just a little further down the beach with our colorful Hilton Hotel Rainbow Tower where we honeymooned.

In the newspaper today they are complaining about the 5000 homeless people now populating Honolulu. Traffic they say is terrible around there. Those are not my memories. We had beautiful vacations down there. It's just hard to believe it could be allowed to be spoiled.

For what it's worth.

My Tiki is made by Stephen Crane, an actor who married Lana Turner. He appeared in the "Cry of the Werewolf" movie. His daughter killed the boyfriend of Lana Turner but was not convicted of a crime.
