Jerry Power Farms Video

Being a bit of a documentalist, when Jerry, a classmate not seen since 1963, friended me on Facebook I thought I'd surprise him with some of my historical collections. I recalled taking pictures of his cows but failed to find them after checking with my 20 boxes of slides. Certainly not important but it was bugging me. Finally I realized it was from videos I took in 1992. Found them and had previously digitized from the Hi 8mm Sony videocam at the time. Posted and his daughter thought it was a "Great Video". Admittedly, it was not high quality although it is up to 180 views already - but the point is: Who documents this stuff? Somebody's got to do it.

I picked up this cheap tapestry from an Antique shop for my house on a whim. It appealed. Perhaps I'm drawn to the documentation of the scene. The fashion style dates the scene representation. It seems to be a modern reproduction of the historically significant Belgium tapestries of the 15th Century, a parlor or bar scene. The interesting fashion styles date the scene representation.

I have in mind painting acrylics over the cloth to make it more vivid like this person did.

Watching some rugby in the Olympics reminded me to polish Great Uncle Guy Butler's trophy cup from 1918 when he played for the Royal Bankok Sports Club. Grandma gave each of us kids one of her brother's trophies. Since I visited Guy in Iowa, I had first choice. But the nickel silver has worn away and could use a re-plating, but I doubt the effort would be worthwhile. I saw pictures of Guy in rugby uniform with his foreign teammates, but they are in the possession of the Warren side of the family.

The King of Siam, King Chulalongkorn founded the club but died just before Uncle Guy arrived so I'm sure they never met. His image, this valuable documentation, provides the sense of royalty and dignity I believe was evident at the this prestigious R.B.S.C. Royal Bankok Sports Club.

The renowned Hampshire Cup was suspended during 1918 for WW 1 so I'm guessing that this was a more low key event. I'm guessing the club travelled to England and bested England & Denmark but that may be erroneous. Perhaps they simply staged a Hampshire like event in Bankok among various member of the club representing their nationalities. Perhaps "The Rest" refers to various members of the Club with mixed nationalities.   I'm grasping here because of the lack of documentation that I could find on line.

Documentation is a great aid to memory and the enjoyment of life. As the song goes, "Thanks for the memories".
