Kateri Pow Wow

7/9/2012

I got smoked

link to my Kateri video (very spiritual)

Took Christie to Indian celebration at the Fonda Shrine . This is just one mile from where Kathy went to high school, the Fonda-Fultonville Braves. The Metis medicine man was wafting smoke by turkey feathers over the participants so I volunteered for the blessing as well. "Let go of all the negative thoughts and let peace come in", he said. This was enlightening for me although Christie might not have though it was kosher. The hypnotic drum beat and chants soon began as the circle dances commenced. Interesting how much the tribes honored the veterans, considering it's like supporting the team that wiped out your heritage.

I don't want to say that I have Mohawk Indian blood, but I like to think I am Native American. Great Grandma's mother, named America See, is said to have Indian blood, not sure but nose looks right.

I just last week got neighbor, Larry Dippold, to finish this larger bowl that Dad had on the lathe when he passed away. Why the Indian motif??? And what about this coincidence; Dad had joint replacements just before passing and had two wounded knees !

You know when I played cowboys and indians with older brother, he always made me be the indian. Younger brother Bill wearing his Tonto Indian fringe and Hopalong Cassidy with Topper shirt. Now I understand why the grown ups were always lamenting "Will you guy stop running around like wild indians."

I could go on, but I don't want to trivialize the pow wow. They were serious, real, and reverent. You could feel it in the air.
