Ch 80 Gas Guzzler                                                     got to pay to play

I hope my audience took to heart my prophetic and clairvoyant chapters on Hybrids and alternative fuel efficient vehicles. However, I suspect that many probably disregarded this blog as schmog. Nevertheless, I actually did buy a hybrid, albeit a bicycle, Specialized Sirrus, cross type bike.

But don’t despair if you are still guzzling. This week I paid $1300 in gas guzzler tax picking up this $64,000 Mercedes Benz E500 300HP V8 four wheel drive sedan from Burlington. Rented a decent GM $15,000 Cobalt from Enterprise along with a retired Sears store manager to fetch it. You gotta ask yourself did the sunny ride back through picturesque Vermont feel four times better than in the Cobalt? YES.

Trying to get gas in the boondocks, the first gas station was out of gas, the next station pump wouldn’t register over $3/ gallon so you doubled the price on the pump. But this is my job. The more gas I burn, the more successful I am. Think of it as an act of patriotism, like giving to the Red Cross. As ridiculous as it seems on the surface, the guy buying this car is supporting our government, society, and Hurricane Katrina victims in a big way. Did you contribute $60 K into the ecomomy last week?

Background is our camp on Stoner Lake in the Adirondacks. Taking Kathy there again this weekend. Stopped at Shawn’s business last week, where he makes these buoys and other things. Helped move Christie into an apartment in Albany. She and friend won radio station all expenses free trip flying to Miami for a concert. “Your sons and your daughters are beyond your command. Your old road is rapidly aging.” Dylan
