Otsego Lake

hall of fame

Visiting retiree Jeff Schmitt's new 1906 camp restoration project. There will be blood. [Panama Canal construction had started]

Just up the lake is the Arrowhead Pointe complex. Impressive but very pricey.

Borrowed Jeff's Old Town kayak for a 3 mile trip north "Up on Cripple Creek" if my boat don't spring a leak. Went up to the first impassable dam through 1894 Otsego Golf Course, one of the oldest in the U.S. Then it was up Hayden Creek. This is at the mouth looking toward Cooperstown and the Baseball Hall of Fame.

As I started down the east shore I spotted a couple rowing a jon boat out toward the middle.

As they got closer I realized it was an Amish fishing expedition. I like how they make the women kind do the rowing. No motors for them.

I was hearing this screaming so looking up noticed a juvenile Bald Eagle circling around. I whistled back and he stayed in the area for a while. Noticed an adult with white head and tail in a high pine tree. Got a reasonable photo, but it didn't make the cut.

Rewarded myself with a nice lunch at the Lake Front restaurant with some baseball players right next to the boat ramp.

While in the area also visited old stumpy (literally) friend Steve Shauger. He's had two hip replacements fifteen years ago so we had a good discussion on that. I made him drag out a couple Timber Homes issues that featured the barn wood homes he built. One near Sharon Springs and the two red beauties are up on the west shore slope past 3 mile point.

All about lifestyle and choices of how you want to live your life.

Here is a beautiful video encapsulating one man's concept of living on Otsego Lake
