Chapter 639

Pompano 2023

rest & relaxation

On our sixth time  Pompano Beach we thought it would be good to slow the tempo a tad to savor the experience. We did somewhat but still had a full itinerary of events. It was beautiful the whole time. The sunshine and warmth was remarkable compared to the gray yet mild winter we had in NY.

On another morning there was a beautiful scene of the morning sky. It's different every morning yet the same in some regards. It's a nice feature of our Florida experience.

We again met up with college chums George and JoAnn. They have a winter house in Palm City now an hour north but we did not venture that far up this time. We met at the Lattitudes Restaurant at the Del Ray Sands Resort on Highland Beach just north of Boco Raton. It was Barbara's recommendation and it was lovely. George's parents were natives of Finland so they were captivated by Colleens description of her trips to Germany where they toured in a van in 1981.

There was a graceful and expressive dancing girl on the beach a couple of mornings. I shot this from my balcony as we are just a short 200 feet from the beach. It was breezy that morning so the waves made a beautiful backdrop. She had her cell phone on a tripod in the sand and you can see she was also capturing the sun rise in her selfie videos.

I saw this guy going up and down the beach front on his Fliteboard. Don't recall seeing it before. Met him later when we went up near the Hillsboro Inlet. The board has impressive capabilities with carbon fiber,  a battery pack, hand controller, hydrofoil, motor and propellers. It will go for around an hour but costs around $14,000.

Entertaining video of boats navigating inlets in Florida.

We did a lot of walking. On the beach, barefoot was best. But also up to the Pier and the restaurants and bars within a mile. We stopped at this Rusty Hook Restaurant & Bar for just the sunset shot. Had many happy hour cocktails but sometimes we just drank our own water bottles.   [Bummer Alert- driving around Florida is a Bad Scene.]

After a long day after swimming (did a quarter mile most days), the Fern Forest, Gumbo Limbo turtle rescue and Dive, Diners, and Driveins- Wale's Rib on Delray Beach we did a couple hours on Boca Raton. This was from Waterstone Resort to watch the spring breakers racked up and packed on the sand bars of Lake Boca, part of the Intracoastal Waterway.

Boca all to ritzy for my tastes.

It's a big party but nothing like the 10,000 they get on Boca Bash at the end of April each year.

The excesses of Boca are breathtaking. I walked over to the One Thousand Ocean private Condos at the Boca Inlet. The smaller units go for $2 million with a penthouse for $13 million. It's the epitomy of FULL SNOBERY. This Tampa company does a great job for general tourists in their videos.

Came across another humerous guy touting Day in the Life at Boca for the young.

We personally thanked Carlucci's Restaurant owner. Ate there three times- outstanding. Check out his cooking the octopus video.

Also wanted to mention our fondness of the Publix supermarkets of Florida. They are clean, friendly and have everything. We ate their fresh prepared subs a couple times and had their fruit bowls for breakfast (they have an abundant growing season).
