Chapter 271

 Land Surveying

from stone ruins to rune stones

This is a survey point from 46 years back in 1965 when I worked summers for the Don McKee Land Surveyors. It is now merely a witness point on my deck testifying to my claim of becoming an analyst of scientific measurements at careers in the DOT, Army, and the DEC. I probably would have ended up on that path anyway, but having the opportunity to begin at McKee's was very rewarding. I contacted Don recently in Florida to obtain some photos from the old days. Got them from his daughter in Albany who also became an engineer and worked with me the DEC.

Surveying for McKee was my first fun job. We did private property layout as well as I-81 Interstate Highway construction survey. I did jobs as far away as Saranac Lake in the Adirondacks, to Lake Ontario, but mostly around Cortland. Genesee Beer, shots of schnapps, pickled eggs, Slim Jims, Mitch Ryder and shooting pool on overnights at the Saranac Hotel come to mind. You start out doing field work holding the dumb end of the tape, working your way up to van driver, hub driver, ribbon installer, lath marking, transit man, level operator, crew chief, draftsman, survey layout, geometry and trigonometry calculations and deed searching.

Because of my survey background I paid particular attention to the History Channel video and book on the Hooked X. It is the fascinating story of how the Scottish and Swedish Knights Templars and Cistercian Monk explorers established a survey marker and land claim in Kensington Minnesota in 1362. They thus actually own the Mississippi River basin. Lookout court cases.

You might be skeptical, but the investigating author of the book is a scientific Geologist who was sufficiently regarded to do forensic work for the Government on the Pentagon concrete after 911.

The bottom line is the facts substantiate this theory that has been debunked for hundreds of years. The research into substantiating this Kensington Rune Stone theory has only just very recently been coming into a culminating conclusion.  Without rehashing all the other details which corroborate the theory, just consider the alignments by themselves which anyone can do on Google Earth.

Start at the Newport Tower , upper right. From it's heart center project a line thru the heartstone and the master mason's keystone in the sacred arch. It points West 22 degrees North and directly to the Kensington Runestone 1252 miles away (upper left). The author proposes that celestial navigation with the astrolabe and following the Venus Star would coincide with this alignment. Regardless, there is no way that is a coincidence especially when you consider how the Kensington Rune Stone is as we say in survey work "tied off". This is the same thing we did as common practice for survey work; to create offset witness points from which one can triangulate or re-establish an important location later. The ancient drill holes found in boulders in Minnesota are also on this same identical line that is projected out from Rhode Island.

The Cistercian Monks were very academic and left coded messages among their archaic rune symbols. One of them is a special x with a hook line in the upper right corner. It is a quite unique character only found in Kensington, Newport Mass, Spirit Pond Maine, the Rosslyn Chapel in Scotland as well as in Christopher Columbus signature. It is believed they are linked and that Columbus had maps of the new world via the linkage of the Knights Templar and Knights of Christ.

A theory I proposed to the author, is the 30-60-90 right triangle baseline. If you also project a line from Newport through the north archway N 68degrees E it makes a 90 degree interior angle which passes right by the Spirit Pond, Maine runestones and intercepts with Pointe d' l'Quest Island at the mouth of the St. Lawrence River. The west end of that island comes to a prominent point and would stand out as a natural landmark to ancient mariners on exploratory voyages. At Newport, there is also a high white quartz stone to the SW which stands out and a line projected through it hits the Mississippi delta. It seems the ancient Norsemen had a practice of making claims starting at the top of drainage basins then claiming the entire basin lands.

It's not about bashing Columbus, it's just understanding what is right under our noses. Why is the Newport Tower not one of our National Monuments as one of the key western development historical sites? Did the Olmsteds have a role in this by assisting the Knights Templars in 1220? This needs more research and may become my life's work?

The ancients placed a high significance on the religious and agrarian importance of astronomical alignments. A list of archeoastronomic sites includes Stonehenge and the Great Pyramids of Egypt. The sun passes through both the south and west windows to create a solar alignment only on the winter solstice at exactly 8:00 a.m. The Orphic Egg shaped keystone on the interior/circular nave of the Tower/Church is illuminated by a light-box as the sun passes through the south window, at exactly 9:00 a.m. which is an important time of medieval monastic prayer (when the sun has completed its first quarter transit across the sky).
