Schatzie's Great Adventure

it's a dog's world

We took a two night adventure into the Lake Placid region of the Adirondacks. Schatzie just loved every minute of it. Riding in the car, being with both of us, meeting many people and kids, and especially coming ALIVE hiking in the woods.

Decided on an awesome Beef Brisket Nachos and Lake Placid Pub Ubu Ale at one our favorite spots,  Smoke Signals since the town was surprisingly not crowded. This is the restaurant view of Mirror Lake and a little walk before dinner.

Whiteface Mountain Toll Road is closed during the winter season but aparently it's ok to park there and go up. Most people were using crosss country skis but we used snowshoes for maybe .3 miles of the 3 mile length. An unexpected foot of snow from spring stormstorm made it too exhausting to bag one the 46er High Peaks.

Schatzie loved it all, but the warm near freezing temps caused discomforting snowballing under her feet.

Stayed at the Hungry Trout Resort (again) in Wilmington. Our view out the dining room panoramic window of the West Branch of the Ausable River trophy trout stream with Whiteface just off to the left out of the picture.

Getting out of Dodge Sunday morning before the Eclipse crowd arrived. Saw many cars from Georgia, Arkansas etc.

Weekend was mostly overcast but this day had beautiful sunshine. We went down to the Whiteface ski resort to mingle with the massive crowds the day before (all the hot chocolate was gone). The many kids just loved Schatzie and vice versa.

Morning view of Mirror Lake from the up scale Crowne Plaza Hotel.

View of Big Slide Mountain with the brothers from Roostercomb parking lot in Keene Valley. Had inspected the trailhead from the Garden Parking Lot on the trip up but a foot of snow and only one hiker who broke trail with snow shoes and total overcast was not conducive for a hike.

Bucket list still in limbo.

We did venture up the Roostercomb MT Trail for a bit just to check it out for the future. The beaver pond at the bottom was scenic but no willing models as Schatzie was too excited.

Nothing kept Schatzie from soldiering onward. A trip she will want for an encore.

Nearly got stuck in the Ausable Mountain Club (private but allowed trailheads) parking lot, exploring for future adventures.
