Deerfield River

recreation paridise

Visited the Bear Swamp Hydroelectric project on the great 70 mile long Deerfield River that originates at Stratton, VT and discharges to the Conneticuit River at Deefield, MA.

I think it's a beautiful valley. This is the upper reservoir used as pump storage. Pump water up during low eletrical demand hours, then release it to generate power during peak needs.

Lots of great fishing for Browns, Brook Trout and Rainbows throughout.

Believe the peak is Mount Monadnock NH in the background 60 miles away.

Four miles upstream is Monroe where dam releases from 11am to 3pm allow for whitewater recreation. This guy did a great video capturing the CrabApple Whitewater journey down to the Dunbar Brook picknic area pull out only half way to Bear Swamp ,

Perhaps our families will someday do this adventure together just past North Adams Mass an hour and a half from Albany???

Drone would not hover over the rapids. Kept drifting dangerously with the current toward the trees. Lots of whitewater kayakers.

A few miles upstream is this Sherman Dam. Another mile to the Vermont border.

Had a beautiful motorcycle ride along the  route 2  historic Mohawk Trail . This golden elk was erected in 1923 designating brotherhood for the soldiers lost in World War 1. You might notice the wind turbines I photographed in Vermont in  chapter 609 .
