Ch 99 Coffee Break

The Coffee Connection

This is unbelievable, it’s like Christmas. I just received 2 free pounds of Green Mountain coffee and they paid me to help deliver it.  Had a bad batch, so I called Green Mt and they shipped 2 pounds down. I happen to have been handling the route (#35) that serves my home in Rexford so I loaded that box on the pallet for the truck driver. Notice how nice and undamaged this box arrived at my house a few hours later that morning. Don’t believe all the horror stories you hear about package handler abuse, we only drop kick em when we get frustrated. Note for a little fun: you can log onto FedEx.com on the Internet and use tracking number 236512371519089 to track the package location. We get no coffee breaks at FedEx. In fact, hands in pockets is verboden. Am thinking that was allowed for Unc Nelson at his POW camp.

The ironic thing is, to backtrack, I met Paul Newman’s daughter Nell (Elinor) this summer just prior to leaving on a swap drive when she was here promoting her Organic Green Mt coffee at a Price Chopper market. My buddy the Price Chopper CEO wasn’t present that day but I did make my TV debut here in this video: http://www.capitalnews9.com/content/top_stories/default.asp?ArID=134357

That’s when I gave her the composite picture for delivery to Paul that I took the prior summer. She wanted to keep it, however, since it had some decent shots of her Mom (Joanne Woodward) on it. Turns out later that she makes the deal with McDonalds to serve her coffee. Had I not been kayaking I would have chauffeured Ronald McDonald to pick up his Jag at Keelers Motorcar this summer and might have gotten advance notice of that coffee deal. The quaint Uncommon Grounds coffee shop shown here is one of my favorites and also a  Skidmore College hangout. [Albany branch later] Had heard (unconfirmed) one of Newman’s other daughters graduated from this Saratoga Springs college. Joes seafood on the Boston warf completes the mosaic as my waitress there on that BMW fetch was also a Skidmore girl who had spent many hours at Uncommon Grounds. Can it be just be a coincidence that my parent organization is called Fed Ex Ground?
