Lake Placid

The Great Adirondack Brew Pub & Restaurant here is one of our favorites. We had snow on my birthday this year unlike the 65 degrees a couple years back. But this is not about me, Journalism 101: The story is the story. The story is: the Adirondacks are beautiful.

Snow shoed back to Connery Pond just a short hike of a couple tenths of a mile. (Used the microspikes walking around the icy luge track.) Used the 4 wheel drive to get down the dirt access road however. A beautiful secluded pond with just a couple camps on it. Even with the gray overcast it was pretty with Whiteface Mt in the background. Interestingly, this is a fake photo. No one else there to take the photo and no tripod so I used the old I take one, she takes one and I splice the photos together.

On the way in to Placid we stopped at the Wilmington Wildlife Center again to check on our wolves and bears. I think this Coyote was the most attractive beast there. They prance around very delicately and peacefully, but they can kill you depending on the circumstances.

Colleen treated me to this stay at the Hampton on Mirror Lake for my birthday. The included breakfast buffet is pleasant sitting at window side. The sun was frustratingly in and out. I missed the best lighting.

We like to get down to the Adirondack Mountain Club Loj when we are in the area. Must stay there sometime. It's a center for many trails into the high peaks.

On the way home we snow shoed on the Flume Trails past Whiteface Mt. The West Branch of the Ausable River here is majestic. Risked my life to get down for this vantage point (but got to keep my "likes" up).

We hiked in to Cherry Patch Pond twice just by serendipity. Much to our surprise, her Peak Finder App said this was Mt Marcy in the background.

Tried to just relax, but ended up doing so much in 3 days- Whiteface Mt ski area, Olympic ski jump, luge, bob sled, Cascade, Paul Smiths College, Mount Pisgah Saranac Lake, Big Slide Pub, Lake Placid Pub, & hot tub.

So beautiful up in the North Country, and it's Colleen's Happy Place. She wanted to take credit for this, and deserves it. The photo album is worth a viewing to just get a sample of what is there. Photogenic even on cloudy days.
