Chapter 92

Low Resolution

Grandma Wilna's 1928 Brownie Box Camera

I attached low resolution scanned and edited crappy old Virgil photo from about 1952 that is also displayed at the museum. Don’t think I sent this out to all. The cars had model airplane motors in them and body attached with wire to center pole. Push start with a long stick with battery attached to glow plug, then jump out of they way as cars got up to 60-80 mph for a few minutes before running out of gas. Neighbors came to watch or would bring their cars to run. I’m sitting with Mom in center. Bro Dale in next chair. Then Jerry Johnson/Fred Saltsman? And Wacky. Lucky (standing where the auctioneer was) looks to have a bat and couple softballs ready to hit out in the hay field where we used to play 5-10-15. 5 points for getting a grounder, 10 on one hop, 15 for a fly ball. About 45 points then you get to bat. Our 40’s cars in background.

Saw Dad’s tether cars in the print version Local Section B of the Albany Times Union today (fittingly on Veterans Day). The museum is having a guy speak about model cars on Nov 19 (fittingly my birthday).

Higher resolution photo being developed.

Previously our tether cars in the museum.
