"Pipe Dreams" are something everyone has. It may be looking forward to the end of the workday or contemplating your retirement utopia. Whatever it is, there is a difference between the perception and the reality. The id and the ego, but I digress.

A friend loaned me his Harley Davidson 1975 Sportster for two weeks. Who would do that? Like I said, a friend. NOT the kind you have on facebook. Long story short, it is fun to ride "ANY" motorcycle, but sometimes the image is better than the real thing. I don't want to disparage the Harley since there is a perception that it's what everyone wants, but let's just say it's a little "old school". Yet there can be a certain cache to being a little rough around the edges.

During the photo shoot I did for payback, I interestingly came across another friend's recent purchase of a 26 foot cruiser boat. He is also switching gears and is well deserving of the reward for the mucho hard earthwork he does. Yet, I think back to college economics: marginal utility - unit cost- unit benefit. I think of my simple kayak and tomorrow's float trip with brother (gotta be a chapter in there somewhere). I wonder if the $500 scooter I had in high school was really the biggest bang for the buck that I had.

I've been doing a bunch of free factory demo motorcycle rides lately for fun, yet hoping that I don't get hooked back into the sport. When I tell the dealer that I hope I don't buy one, they get that blank look in their eyes and don't know what to say next (which is good). Nevertheless, it's the search that is the journey, not the destination.

During the search sometimes you find a Mastodon.
