Droning On
Col is my Co-Pilot
I've lived here for over 4 decades but I've never seen my home like this. it's nice to go up a few hundred feet for a whole new perspective, a whole new world.
I like the world view my sphere mode gives me. I'm centered above our Hawk nests in the tall pines at sunset to the west. At the end of my flight, I thought I heard one screeching. Our resevoir is to the east.
Colleen became a registered drone pilot this week so I let her go solo, timidly. I feel a lot of trust confidence in our equipment but admit we are novices with much to learn.
She snapped off this picture and I post edited at home for a better rendition. The Mohawk was very muddy this day with excess runoff.
The camera is AMAZING. It's the size of a peach pit but gets stunning results from upon high. When we say high, we are supposed to stay under 400 feet but it is capable of going to 1600 feet and a range of 3 or 6 miles on a half hour battery. The DJI Mini is a big bang for the buck with reasonably comparable capabilities at half the cost. I'm no expert and there are a multitude of UAV's Unmanned Aerial Vehicle quad copters out there.
Here is some of the drone's DJI tech review information. There have been many Chinese espionage cases is the US with the theft of militry secrets but is the threat there is over hyped. This article casts doubt on DJI's theft of technology? It's hard to know what is real. The following video link makes a real slick presentation (and justified).
