Chapter 44

1/5/2005

Carroll Shelby and Dad

Virgil Toys in Museum

There they are side by side.

After my mission # 136 to Binghamton, I went to the Saratoga Auto Museum. Dad's Tether cars are on display with his credits. In the background are Carroll's Cars. If you don't know Carroll, I can't explain. Google him and you get 869,000 web pages. Randy Hilton's  (Hilton Hotels) 1964 red AC Shelby Cobra 289 c.i.  which raced in SCCA/USRRC competition factory modified to 450 HP is in the photo.

I volunteered to help on the 19th this month when Carroll comes to visit. Since he is 70 plus and has a lot of California experience, where the Tether's originated from , I'm wondering if he will pick up Dad's cars. They are actually secured with wire so that the kids can't throw them around. Director said they have been played with already.

Just a small thing contribution but the spirit lives on!

Chapter 92 covers this race track in our back yard where we ran these specific tether cars.

Just had to add a workbench shot. Foreground is the replica 1939 Dooling Mercury Deluxe with the 1946 F type in the background. Grandson has the #48 Roy Cox Thimbledrome now.

The Tethesrcars.com site has the best overall reference for these cars.

This cool video is included in their history segment.

Another very good reference source for tethers is model engine news

Chapter 32 had the first reference to these cars.

Chapter 137 included a picture of Brock Yates Midget when he came to our museum.

Chapter 185 was a Sprockets to Rockets video with a variety of our interesting mechanicals.

Chapter 259 show cased the cars at the museum.

A Duesenberg model tether in action.
