Chapter 89

I’m Hired (warning car story)

package handling phase begins

I was standing there doing a little charity work for my non-profit organization when the cell phone rang. “Can you come in and work for us at FedEx?” I said sorry but right now there’s a 600 HP million dollar yellow V-12 Ferrari bearing down on me. He says, no, not now but tomorrow at 4:30am. OK, I say, I’ll handle your packages.

I had started out the day leading the pack of so-called supercars (Enzo & white Ford GT) on a parade lap of Saratoga Park for our film crew to capture. Another volunteer and PE, Ralph Pascucci  , did the filming since he had prior experience (winning an Emmy for his Formula 1 work for ESPN). This is part of the changing of exhibits at my museum.

For a driver we chose Brock Yates (video)  as he hadn’t crashed too many cars in his racing days, and as a Board of Directors member we didn’t want to hurt his feelings. Also a writer type like me but he has 12 books at    Brock was admiring my Stang as he sidled up and parked his black Porsche Carrera GT V-10 twin turbo next to me and the silver McLaren Mercedes gull wing SLR. All these cars cost about as much as a small third world country and the old school 1962 silver Ferrari 250 GT with (heh heh) wire wheels sort of like mine goes for $3 Million. One of my dealerships, (Mike Cantanuci's) New Country, supplied many of the vehicles from his empire.    I met Mike's business partner Peter O'Malley who drove the Enzo back to the museum. He actually knew the hockey guy-car salesman for whom I shot the wedding last week.

I wish I had a song reference to throw in here but my head is spinning and I’m just trying to catch my breath. I know, Bob, you just want to drive to the trail head with the least amount of gas- but I think you have to agree there is a certain kind of beauty to these things.

Gotta cut back on the emails.
