Ch 152 Ranger Danger                                                                Only You Can Prevent Forest Fires

Some strange birds can be found at these elevations. Even if it's only in your mind, a bird's eye view of the world can often give one an insightful perspective of life's goings-on. Slipping back to my roots in Forestry, was floating in the canopy of the mature northern hardwoods birch, beech, and maple at the Kane Mt Fire Tower with the nice panorama of Canada Lake in the background. The first time we climbed up there, back in the 70's, the old Ranger was still there- now empty. State DEC boat launch site (free) on West Lake is to the right. Under my hand is the outflow down thru Stewarts Landing Dam. Left side has lake proper and web cam at the quaint little Canada Lake Store with the navigable road under pass into Green Lake. Have kayaked the whole thing to try and keep my back in shape, but somewhat of a losing battle. The hike itself is short and rewarding. This, another fine spot for outdoor recreationalists.

Speaking of web cams, last weeks chapter broadcast did not fully take place due to technical difficulties. We were there and you may have caught glimpses on Cam 2 without audio. Maybe some other time.

Time to get head out of clouds, come to earth, to prepare a study of the gathering and socialization habits of the Olmsted Clan for next chapter.
