Joy of a Boy

sharing the joy

My Lucas 2.75 video

I simply wanted to capture another brief video to document Lucas' development; his life story to look back upon one day. I'd planned to only spend my typical half hour per week visit. Yes, I'm a fair weather Gpa. Ended up spending all morning from which to cull a 5 minute segment. The pure un"adult"rated joy is clearly evident in this bit. Makes you wonder why we don't all feel this good. You really don't need much to be happy. If you are a dog, just a pat on the head will do. If you are human, just a couple sticks will do the trick. Don't lose the child within each of us.

Chromecast:

Had wanted to do a whole chapter on this terrific streaming technology, but it's awkward.

Long story short: For my $25 three inch plug in, I can now play from the internet storage all the 130 Youtube videos I created along with 10,000 high resolution photos onto my large screen high definition TV. They can likewise be shown on any home TV in the world. Of course there is a myriad of better content out there, but I find it remarkable that when I began this internet exercise 10 years ago to bring my 35mm slides from the darkness of my closet out into the daylight of the world that NOW they can really be shown in the large format that they deserve.

You may say no one cares. Sure. But I am up to 20,000 views of my Residential Water Well Drilling video. And long lost Werner Ungewitter who I coached in their 8th Grade Phys Ed class (because that was the only Phys Ed hour that would fit my schedule) has been reading my chapters unbeknownst to me from North Carolina to keep up with Virgil news.

Bill met up with Werner after 3 decades separation when they both attended his Cousin George's funeral in Cortland. He even wondered if Colleen spoke German or Russian !  I haven't seen him in 53 years but put him on our email list this week. I believe Werner's family had left Germany, through Russia to China where he was born while unable to leave during the communist occupation. Came to Virgil School in 1960. His family history is complicated and interesting, but he revealed a few details to Bill on this deck of Greek Peak just down the road from his old family dairy farm.

Werner's cousin Renate Ungewitter survived WW2 living near Hanover Germany. After the war she taught children of the British occupation forces. Fell in love with the local British Commander in charge, Major Tom Greenshields. She was one of the first war brides to leave Germany in 1946 for England at eighteen years old. She wrote this book Lucky Girl Goodbye about her experiences and this link is to a 25 minute radio interview with her in German. Bill is reading now after attending the funeral of her brother George who had moved to Virgil. Husband Tom Greenshields was a nude sculpturist in Hawkchurch England.

My Stony Creek Reservoir spring ditty video, just across from the neighbors house.
