Wood Splitting

easy peeze

Now I know how Abraham Lincoln felt. There's a feeling of power splitting wood. Borrowed a neighbor's 40 year old Montgomery Ward 10 ton splitter. It has been on our street since new- going to different homeowners.

My first experience doing this by hydraulic mode. Started on the easier Spruce tree I had felled earlier.

Next up was the Birch hardwood from my property. Donating all the wood for Colleen's fireplace.

Colleen did some of the work when she had time.

The big chunks were manageable after getting on end to roll and go up my car ramp then backstopped by the standing tree.

It was still an exhausting effort, four days to complete while wearing down my shoulder joint and other various body parts. Oh, it will chop off your finger in a second if you put it in the wrong spot but no significant injuries.

Worked my way up to the last largest piece using rolling techniques , minimal lifting.

Had to finish the split with a splitting maul and pry bars.

Walk the chunks into position for the next cut like how they moved the Moai on Easter Island.

Some say burning wood kills the planet but we were taught in college that wood is a renewable energy resource. A hike up to the just established Valentino's Community Forest out past Troy might illustrate the point.

Hazel and Violet came for a visit. At first afraid of Schatzie, but they warmed up to each other.
