Fall Foliage

deciduous forests can be delightful

Typically, I do not seek out autumn colors but rather just let them come as they may. Actually tried to capture some this time but I can't really convey the feeling ( and don't like being a model ). Stopped at the Sagamore Resort on Lake George for lunch and tried the Bolton Landing Kolsch lager. It was delicious; went to their popular and crowded brewery afterwards but it wasn't available for take out- only brewed for the Resort.

The vibe at the resort on this day was a ten. Lounged at lakeside for a bit listening to the mahogany boats cruising by with the gulls singing in the gentle breeze. The shimmer of sunlight off the lake was magical (my cam only gives a crude capture). Had to force ourselves to get up and go or else we woulda been stuck there.

This is my shtick : spontaneous, simple and local, not grandiose.

We had hiked up Pinnacle Mountain just prior. A short bit with a big payoff. Of course there were plenty of others wanting the view (and obstructing our scene) but with my small gorilla tripod and a rope bound to a tree shooting in burst mode I'm able to edit them out in post processing. Here we are overlooking the Sagamore peninsula below left.

We proceeded up the west coastline on route 9N to this Silver Bay viewpoint that I thought might look good. I have to splice photos together to get a panorama from my camera. Kind of wishing we were out in the kayaks but that's for another day.

Had a previous picture of this Hague town park and boat launch and wanted to see if the leaves had color. Real nice but still not the intense leaf color I had in my mind. It's so fleeting; this lighting and coloration gig.

The day before we had gone up to the largest Garnet mine in the world at North River and picked up a few as souvenirs. Stopped here at a pull off and after climbing down on some sketchy slippery boulders found this money shot of the Hudson River looking north. Not sure what the mountain is in the background. This is part of the historic whitewater canoe race course.

A week prior we went up one of our all time favorites - Moxham Mountain. This beaver dam is half way up the trail and was well lit on this day. It is in a gully that doesn't always get the sun. Wondering if the beavers know the beauty they create. Guess not.

This outcrop is just before the ascent to the top. I kind of like the views here better than at the top because we have the mountain to look at as well as the wide sprawling valley to our right ( not shown). It seems so far up and almost insurmountable but really it's only a 20 minute moderate further climb up. You can see one lone hiker on top of the bare rock if you look real close.

At the top you can see miles around. The bare scarred part of the mountain in upper right is the Barton Garnet Mine that we went to later.

Life is good.
