Our New Home

not all it's Trumped up to be

As we brought downstate our third load of goods for the new house like the Beverly Hillbillies, we were a little taken aback by all the shrub work we were going to face. Sure it's nice to go Green, but there is a limit you know. I mean, can't we clear out some of the overgrowth without being accused of being anti environmentalists. Talk about carbon footprint, what about Big Foot print. And were the Druits really here back in the day?

As we got closer it did seem to be more elegant. Gotta love the golden touches and the welcoming floral arrangements. Yes, there is a wall but it does not keep out our friends from below the mainland 48. Plenty of gardening jobs available.

There is just a feeling of touching gold everywhere. Some are intimidated and fearful of the security guard at the entrance but it is for our own protection. Check all weapons at the door.

We created this wonderful fire pit to dispose of some of the excess foliage. We don't think it's necessarily a bad thing to warm the planet just a tad on a cool autumn night.

Before leaving for the day we decided to do a 5 minute patio door adjustment that turned into 5 hours, but with complete success, so good.

Their Ring security cams do a great job of catching a lot of wildlife (and other spooky perps going out to kill ground wasps at 4:30 am). Flamingos seem to be in style everywhere.

Hazel was a ball of energy, wearing us out. Hazel Jumping video

To back track a bit, our first truck load of goodies had occurred two weeks prior. Did some massive lawn mowing and donated a mower.

A prime objective for me was to get rid of the creepy vines all over the place. A fine job and outcome; I thought.

So I found these bottles behind the antique stone wall while clearing. I'm still amazed that these turn of the century medicine bottles lay there for what 50 years and none of the prior property owners had picked them up. And how pristine they actually are (my quick pic doesn't show how nice they really are). Lydia Pinkham was quite an historic figure.  Foley & Co was an old medicinal Chicago firm.

The second truck load had been a quick mid week jaunt down the Hudson Valley on the pleasant Taconic State Parkway. I have been willing to downsize and donate excess furniture for daughter's Putnam Valley house (if you haven't guessed by now- thought if I kept the story a little fuzzy it might be more interesting). A friend gave us some beautiful Oak furnishings as well. Cleared out a couple drainage ditches while there.
