Moxham Mountain

On a whim we tried out this hike that was mentioned in a news article. It turned out to be one of our best hikes ever. It was an exhausting but exhilarating 6 mile beautiful round trip (gps confirmed). The weather was great, it was a much more gentle slope with less boulders than the high peaks yet with fantastic views better than many high peaks have. The DEC sign posts have conflicting erroneous trail length information.

We initially thought we were at the summit here only to realize the peak higher up with hikers (yellow dot) was where we were to proceed. I was already limping but decided to tackle the ridge line because to do it later may be too late. Such a rewarding experience.

You don't always get a chance to see the profile of the mountain you will be hiking and you don't here. It is similar but this is a picture of Moxham Point about 100 feet lower elevation and one mile closer to the camera than Moxham Mountain. Our hike is behind this mountain. It is a nice view however looking across Moxham Pond from Rte 28N between North Creek and Olmstedville. The trail starts well beyond the pond and Point but you get the idea of the terrain here. At Olmstedville we stopped at the country store next to their one intersection but no post cards available. The highly respected super light weight and very costly carbon fiber kevlar Hornbeck Boats are made there.

On the way back down the mountain toward dusk we stopped at a beaver pond for a quick shot. Just a lovely trail that I'm putting on the snow shoe list.

Stopped to look for moose at Austin Pond below North Creek, found deer and beaver. Then dinner at the Basil & Wick entertained by country line dancers. Senator Bobby Kennedy finished third in the Hudson River Whitewater Derby here in 1967.

I need to include other random shots from the last month so that I can search and find them in the future. This from a motorcycle ride down to Kaaterskill Falls yielded a storm clearing view of the Catskills.

south of Round Top Catskill Mts

Another trip to the WW2 Reinactment at Round Top Crystal Brook Mountain Brahaus yielded this beautiful view of the Catskills across a meadow.

Amsterdam Recorder Pattersonville to Amsterdam

In other news the Amsterdam Recorder interviewed this senior citizen after his Pattersonville to Amsterdam 15 mile round trip on this new bike path.

Glenville Oktoberfest

In other news the Times Union recorded our presence at the Glenville Oktoberfest that included Christie and Hazel as well as 10,000 others. A big time.

Other miscellaneous shots in the linked picture folder include kayaking on Fish Creek, Round Lake, Schroon Lake, Lake George, wildlife shots of turkeys, herons, turtles, pigeons, Egret, dog walkers- visits to Ndakinna Cultural Center, Spac, , SAM auto auction, VIA Aquarium: eel, jellyfish, shark, & Alaska gold, flowers, Hazel & Lucas.
