Reunion 4

SU 28 - Stony Brook 17

Got a cute frosh, Brewster Hall, music major, to shoot us. Didn't trust my cam to the homeless guy on the corner Buzz had taken up friendship with. We beat the Stony Brook Seawolves coming from behind in a close game. Unheralded Stony Brook was no Holy Cross, they were impressive- bigger than many of our players and with a slew of major D-1 transfers.

The corner will probably look different in 50 years.

Took shot down Marshall Street by Manny's which shows the Sheraton towering in the background on the site of our old Co-op.

Then went inside the Sheraton, breaching security up to the ballroom past the Football Officials room, to take the same angle of M street that we'd had for years past. They are at bottom left too embarrassed to join me as Pete tries to convince the Buzzman that he IS the most interesting man in Ulster County. Nice safety green way path there for biking now.

Highlight of this trip was stepping back in time when we re-entered the inner sanctum of Watson Hall Dormitory where all three of us spent our freshmen years 1963. It was a crude and rude cinder block prison-like/living area then and now. Can't imagine the parents paying $200,000 to send kiddies to SU and then seeing this dorm. The front of the U has been filled in (for security) with brick. It's co-ed now but the girls (in background) told us to go right in so we did without any opposition or questioning. Short shorts seem to still be in style so many years later, along with the peace symbols making a comeback. Bathroom was marked Mixed Gender Restroom which I thought was kind of amusing (complete with condom dispenser, 75 cents).

Went right up to my old room 420 East to meet the new residents. Thought it would be an interesting time warp 50 years hence. Allison and Rebecca were not in. The other girls seemed to be getting a chuckle from our presence. Sad, but they seemed to consider us unthreatening or harmless, (or at worse pitiful). Dorm is on Facebook.

Scanned my old B & W for a comparison. This shot shows the 1963 courtyard before they added the wall in front.

The goon squad (upperclassmen) had coerced my floor to make this pep rally sign hung on the side of the building for football game against Holy Cross. Worked as our (Pat Killorin and Jim Nance) team won 48-0.

The room layouts had been altered somewhat but the narrow corridors remained I could tell because I used to climb the walls there.

Phil Handy showing off his ability to fill a door jamb. Later dodging RPG's Jul 1968- Jul 1969 in US Army A Shau Valley Vietnam, 27th Engineer Battallion Combat Engineers.Thua Thien Province I Corps, LZ Sally, LZ Bastogne,  Fire Support Base Blaze .

Rick Johnson and Dave Ulrich in makeshift Halloween garb.

Rick and Phil. Oh we were big shots. Smoking and drinking, I see the lantern we stole from the workmen's manhole on the city street returning from a little binge.

My room 420 East desk would be a boring shot except that I can see the pencil holder and squared briefcase that I still have. In subsequent years I took that briefcase all around the state on water quality surveys from the Atlantic Ocean to the Niagara River. Believe the Converse All Star hightops are covered with mud from our Sunday football games out in front of Dellplain (now another building).
