The Hurricana Club

bits and pieces

Today my newspaper reminded me of the passing of Robert "Whitey" Murray. His Amsterdam hockey team barely missed out on playing a game at Madison Square Garden.

I had the above picture in my possession around 2005 when a guy in the office, Fred Luckey, had found it at the Clifton Park landfill and gave it to me. By googling the story, contacting the writer , calling the Sanford horse racing family in Florida (Sanford Stakes), I then traced down Whitey Murray in Amsterdam but he said the photo was before his time so I gave it to the Schenectady Gazett.

What was amazing to me was the quality of this photo from 1936 as well as the tie in to Amsterdam, hockey, and horse racing. Writing history is an enjoyable piecemeal mystery. A great deal of effort is required that I enjoy in bits and pieces.

I am still intriqued by the Chapter 305 oem photo I came across of the group of artists in NY 1904 but have not yet fully identify. So difficult, contacted numerous artists in NY to no avail.
