Ch 122: Wireless in Westmere                                 Wireless Internet Technology & Interconnections

The curious cycle of life! Roger down to Daytona again this week, but I'm stayin North. Rog plans to meet with the CEO of the Harley modification enterprise there.

When I started my career here in 1968 I rented a house (pictured) on the outskirts of Albany in McKownville across the street from the "Across the Street Pub". Now I come thru Westmere often, about a mile from that house. That house is on the back border of SUNY Univ Albany where my Daughter graduates from tomorrow with Honors majoring in Sociology (I think).

Speaking of Sociology, I recently reconnected with an old friend, Dan, who also graduated from U Alb in Soc just a couple years ago. Dan manages the Pet Supplies Plus store a block down from my old house. He's shown restocking the Science Diet shelf. And it's not just dog food either. He's some hamburger guy there whose making a few bucks if you still don't think that capitalism isn't all that weird. Yeah, he had a soc. job but the OPPORTUNITY arose in his old hood. This little store is actually a multi million dollar a year business.

Dan works wirelessly too. Has set up a home and office wireless router. And at Albany's Uncommon Grounds. Here he is at home showing me his recent advertising campaign on his Sony Vaio laptop computer. When we had a disagreement regarding point scoring for double ringers in a horseshoe match, he connected to the official horseshoe website right from the "pit" to resolve the issue. From anywhere on the premises of his store he is enabled to "connect" wirelessly with any of his 200 suppliers. Revolution is in the air.

When I was uploading the fuel injection settings to the Harley, I had to download the instruction manual from Florida right there while attached to the bike in order to determine whether we needed to apply the continuous barometric pressure correction factors. For my efforts, I got a free new router and personal wireless laptop for my home. [Back at the State, they wouldn't even give me a calculator!] Did you know you can maintain continuous internet connection for thousands of miles on laptop with a Verizon wireless PC card (via Radio Frequency- Cell tower) if you drive to Florida.
