atomic theory

The morning sun washed over the new fallen snow on our deck reminding me of the center of our solar system; that is solar power. This 1992 Greek 10 Drachma piece honors Democritus, the father of the modern science who first developed the Atomic Theory, maybe. There is no doubt, however, that Greek coins are amazing. They make a visual impact and can date back to 500 yrs BC (which I have on order currently for $3).

The atomic theory not only applies to our solar system but to all matter, as a matter of fact. We take it for granted but it was the basis for all the chemistry that we applied to toxic waste discharges at the DEC. Application of organic and inorganic chemistry was a huge part of our job there. Analysis of nuclear wastes was primarily covered by other agencies but I did have minor role dealing with an emergency authorization issue regarding a copper contaminated cooling water discharge resulting from the site area emergency at the Nine Mile Point Nuclear Reactor . Their reactor design is the GE Mark 1 like at Fukushima. The West Valley Reprocessing Facility where spent nuclear waste is stored created numerous water quality issues in my basin over the years. Now, meltdown of snow flakes consumes me.

It's great to have these pioneers honored on coins. If they put your image on a coin, which of your contributions to society would be represented on the reverse side?
