end of an era
Wanted to have one more ride on a motorcycle to see what it felt like after selling my Indian last year. I was correct, it was the right decision. It felt awkward riding, weak leg strength, hip discomfort, numb wrist and general discomfort. But it was great to have the offer from friend Tony to use his Harleys for a 2 hour ride by the Tomhannock Reservoir and the Buskirk Covered Bridge in the town of Hoosick.
I did do some rehab swimming and biking which did greatly reduce the pain in my lower back that has been there for a year when I worked too much on a snowblower. This is the Colonie section of the Empire Bike Trail (750miles in New York State). Vischer Ferry is across the Mohawk.
The Schenectady section is quite smooth and quiet along the Mohawk River.
Next I did the Watervliet to Albany segment twice along the Hudson.
It's pretty nice and mostly peaceful although one biker was hatchet murdered in this section a couple years ago.
Then I did for the first time the East Greenbush to Nassau segment. I opted to omit the segment from Albany to my launch spot at the East Greenbush Police Station since there were more on road sections.
The 10mile segment down to Nassau past Nassau Lake was extremely smooth and un populated. It was a good decision to do the uphill portion first plus 250 feet elevation, then return back going downhill.
It all felt really good to do the biking.
Some say I shouldn't be rotating my tires and doing hard work but I feel like it is beneficial as long as I pace my self in moderation. Was considering attending a Pain Management clinic but so far my self guided physical therapy is doing pretty well. Second hip replacement probably is needed but putting it off for the time being.
