Terry's Journey in Retirement
Chapter 582

Dream Home
a property to die for
"They're not making any new lakefront properties". Yes, they are.
So, I read about this way cool development in the newspaper this week and we decided to go on a wild goose chase / drone flyover. This has been a lifelong dream of Colleen's to have such a rustic property. I must admit it looked even more impressive being there than the little description I read about. It's about an hour north right next to Northville and the state boat launch site to the Great Sacandaga Lake. However, I'm afraid it will be TOO NICE ( ie too expensive ) when when full details become available for the 5 to 100 acre plots. It's adjacent to the huge tracts of state lands the Shaker Mountain Wild Forest and the Northville Placid Trail. No motorized boats will be allowed and a 100 foot natural vegetation buffer will be maintained around the perimeter. But for now it's an adventurous journey - chapter that we can continue to update.
The fly over suffered from a loss of signal due to the tall trees and wind. Did not try to do a professional job, just a rudimentary look see. This little foreground peninsula is the spot (lot 17) where we hiked down to after the fly by, and captured in the above photo. It's all marked posted, patroled, we will prosecute you, but I was going no matter what.Melissa has been teaching Junior High all year from her home laptop with the covid situation still in the air. You can notice the dirt Collins - Gifford Valley road on the right side.
Enviroradicals have been in an uproar over the project but the Oneonta based New York Land and Lakes Development LLC's 100 page application pretty well laid out the foundation for the approval to the Adirondack Park Agency APA's approval (since it is located within the Blue Line).
It's been nearly 3 years since the development has been in the works.
At the end of the proposed road on the east side of the lake, the last property of 8 Acres looks like it would have a nice sunny exposure on the little peninsula. However, they shortened the proposed road from 3000 feet to 2000 feet so that lot may not be available. The first lot on the road might get more sun overall due to the lower elevation but there are less pine trees. The East side mid lot might be best. USGS water quality data
WAIT- what if we live on a dream home location already. A neighbor mentioned the reservoir behind us might be opened up for some limited use recreation, fishing and non motorized boats. Turns out it that proposal was broached two months ago but we were unaware of it. Are we dreaming so much that we are asleep, are we looking for greener grass when it looks pretty GREEN here already? Come on Man.
It's pretty nice here in the morning. One of my earlier drone shots. I should do a complete reservoir perimeter flyover.
As temperatures warmed I climbed to the top of a nearby hill under the Nat Grid powerlines for a higher elevation launch. However, the Albany airport restrictions still disallow altitude over 194 feet in the glide path over the reservoir.
Perhaps Colleen is always longing to get farther and farther away from the neighborhood she grew up in as a child. This is it. I went down to fly over the Norlite facility in Cohoes since it has been in the news with neighborhood complaints of pollution. It has been a smelly situation for decades as they are allowed by the State DEC to burn hazordous waste by products in their kilns. Waste by products have to go somewhere, but it's a matter "degree". Looking like clean water vapor on this day. The company makes a useful light weight aggregate by burning 400 million year old shale. Their aggregate is in the Twin Bridges and the World Trade Memorial.
