Chapter 601

Going Spheroid

globes, circles, fish eyes

I produced a sphere using the built in Asteroid module when I first got my drone. If I just use the globe module I get a 360 image but haven't been able to put it into a globe till now. Found a guy on Youtube who said merely download the Theta+ app for cell phone. It works like a charm. With one finger you can creat all sorts of globe / planet 3D situations. Did a trial at my reservoir. Neighbor wanted me to photograph the white swans out there. They hide. Anyway I made a little path for him to get to waters edge. I'm standing on it above. Launched drone up about 30 feet , and made this crystal ball, globe effect that they call a mirror image.

There's a 360 one  two inch high video cam out there for $400 that is amazing at producing phenomenal results.

From a higher altitude 100 ft (restricted glide path for airport)I got this effect.

Same raw file from 30 feet, but with a 2 dimensional output. Since it was skewed I further stylized in Topaz with graphic effects.

Quick pan shot with iphone before dronning from neighbors lot.

This may have been another 2D output from globe image or maybe it was just from a panorama shot. There is so much you can do, I forget exactly what I did.

Trying to drone every day so I did a trial over the Vischer Ferry Dam. Was worried the high energy power lines woud interfere with my signal, not wanting to lose my drone. But it worked out up a few hundred feet.

Again the same 360 output as a 2D.

I've photographed the Mohawk Towpath Senic Byway Duathalon previously (ghost bike shot). They have used my photographs on their web site. This time stepped it up a notch going up a hundred feet with pano, then inserted a single shot from 30 ft elevation at Riverview Orchards.

Had a long 6mile hike at Daniels State Forest on a beautiful fall day. Launched the drone behind me. Cheated and used the foreground of an hour earlier shot with pocket cam when the sun was out better. By the time I did the drone the sun had gone significantly but I still used the shot of my back spliced in.
