Chapter 630

Nichols at Hartwick

fall football

A week prior Bill supplied me with a ticket to the SU - Purdue football game at the new dome on campus. A quick stop at parking lot behind Flint hall on Mount Olympus bottom right for launch.

ESF Forestry College lower left where I got my first B.S. We walked thru the Quad to the right and down University Ave to the Coop, far right now Sheraton Hotel red brick building on Marshall St. Onondaga Lake in background.

Stayed in Sadler Hall red brick 7 story dorm part of Sophomore year, just left of dome. Stadium then was crumbly concrete Archbold Stadium.

Hartwick is a beautiful hillside campus in Oneonta. I launched from behind the open gate in lower corner of photo. Stayed out of sight and raised no concerns from any authorities. We are looking down the Susquehanna River valley.

It was just a beautiful day for football (and I played the veteran card to avoid the $5 ticket charge).

Nephew Dale Scott Olmsted has been head coach for Nichols College for a few years. Had a 3-0 record before losing this game. They are only Division 3 but they are big, strong and intense.

Scott's son Hayden is a co-captain this year and starting Center. A big guy at 6'-2" , 275 pound Senior, he may have some more football ahead of him.

Stopped at Central Bridge for some shots with the sun setting. Looking south along I-88 and Rte 7 with the Schoharie Creek coming in from the left where it joins up with Cobleskill Creek to proceed north to the Mohawk. The drive down I-88 is always scenic but the highway construction projects can be maddening.

Got to the annual Scotia Maalwyck Park Oktoberfest late but still a big happy crowd and made for a nice photo op.
