Walking on Ice

slip slidin away

Did the most walking on ice ever in my life last week. Top of Buck Mt near Lake George was this goal. Across the water is Bolton Landing . Although we had a nice 35 degree day the 10+ mph wind at the top discouraged hanging out there. We did find some shelter to the left between a rock and a hard place; I mean some fir trees where we could refresh from a thermos of hot chocolate.

These Hillsound microspikes were indispensable on this day where ice covered almost the entire 5 mile 5 hour round trip from the north access Hogstown Trailhead.  They are such an efficient invention.

It was a real adventure and you had the feeling of a great deal of accomplishment when finished (and reward self with a fine brew pub meal and craft beer). Colleen developed some real confidence on icy slopes where you think you'd slip, fall, and break something. You learn little subtle techniques that just come naturally to dogs. Yes, they are more advanced than us.

After undergoing all this effort, we both nearly fell in our own driveways on the black ice simply getting the newspaper.

We had wanted to get into a favorite spot but the crowds were overwhelming to get in and see the ice sculptured bar. This one we did hit locally at the Mill in Round Lake. "Very cool" I must say and you could feel the uplifted spirits by everyone present.

Things heated up for the Saturday night concert at the Palace Theater in Albany. This Get the Led Out, Led Zeplin tribute band was outstanding. The lead singer had the passion as did the awesome talented musicians along with the amazing light show thru the fog. Was reluctant to go but it really was an outstanding performance. They allow non flash photography. Have many more sharper images but this kind of captures the feel of the night.

Coincidentally grandson was sporting a tie dyed shirt on the concert day. By the way I downloaded the FREE and very useful Topaz Studio photo editing software for this rendition.
